Emotional Eating Behaviour Programme

The Emotional Eating Behaviour Programme involves around 10 sessions of therapy to look at how certain foods are used to regulate mood.  This therapy is provided through one to one counselling at St Catherine's House, Tickhill Road, Doncaster and can also be done online.  The programme helps to make sense of why you eat, what you eat and when this is not as a result of hunger but other factors, perhaps to relieve low mood, boredom, sexual avoidance or relationship tension etc. It is particularly helpful for clients that may have yo-yo dieted, repeatedly attempted many different diets and who may have a tendency to binge eat.

Looking at emotional eating behaviours within a counselling context enables the role of food to be explored in much more depth, looking at a client’s relationship with food, weight and mood over different stages in his/her life. It looks at the messages received about food, understanding the emotions driving the need to eat and the inner conflict that is often present that generates self- criticism and feeds a continuing cycle to soothe via food.  Clients who have accessed the programme have shown a great improvement in their overall emotional wellbeing, with reduced low mood and anxiety.
